Dr. Michael G. Schneider died peacefully with his family by his side on March 8 at the age of 92.
Michael was the patriarch of the Schneider family. He will be fondly remembered by his children Berndt (Cindie), Karl (Deb), Erik, Lena (Joe) Knight. Michael will also be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Michael (Ashleigh), Derek (Allie), Makenna Knight, Hayley, Taylor (Eric) Knight, and Drew and his great-grandchildren Frank and Clara. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Gull Sjoholm, his brother John, and his sisters Teresa Whitman and Magdelena.
Michael was born in Krndija, Yugoslavia in 1926. He received his Doctorate of Political Science and Economics from the University of Graz and immigrated to the United States in 1950. Throughout his life, he was an active member of the Brunswick community and the local German community. He served as president of several organizations including the Donauschwaben, D.A.N.K., Altenheim and was appointed to the Cleveland Port Authority by Mayor Voinovich. Michael executed his vision of community through the foundation and continued development of Old Mill Village and the German American Business Center in Brunswick. He was also an active member of St. Stephens Church in Cleveland.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 14 from 10-11 am at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 1930 W. 54th St., Cleveland, with Mass at 11 am. Private family interment. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to The Thomas P. Perciak Family Residential Hospice.
