Minnie Louise Bass-Hurt was born on June 15, 1952, in Demopolis, Alabama, to the late Moses and Hattie Bass. The family relocated to Cleveland OH. Minnie attended Cleveland, OH public city schools, where she graduated from Glenville High School. After graduating from high school, Minnie relocated to Detroit, Michigan, where she met and subsequently married Samuel Hurt Sr. on January 3, 1977.
Minnie Bass-Hurt confessed Christ at an early age. She became a member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Jimmie Lee Burnett. After years in Detroit, MI, Minnie moved to Medina, OH, where she became a member of the Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor John R. Peterson. She faithfully served the Lord and attended church on a regular basis. The lovely Minnie Hurt had many great and unique ways about her. She loved to play spades and solitary. She liked plants and also enjoyed cooking. Capping jokes on anyone and everyone was one of her specialties. She also loved to travel with her favorite cousin, Annie Ruffin.
Minnie’s favorite scripture was Psalms 23: “The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want”.
Minnie Hurt departed this life on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at 8:42 AM. She leaves to cherish her memory, three children, Gwendolyn Bass, Demetrius Hurt and Samuel Hurt Jr.; four brothers, Moses Bass (Jacqueline), Bruce Bass, John Bass (Vickie) who proceeded her in death and Edward Bass who proceeded her in death, six sisters, Lola Thrasher who proceeded her in death, Mittie Bass who proceeded her in death, Ruth Bass, Anna Bass, Mary Robinson (Robert), and Mary Buchanan who proceeded her in death; eleven grandchildren, Shonquese Hurt, Demetrius Hurt, Deante Hurt, Janique Hurt, A’maryon Hurt, Brianna Bass, Autumn Bass, Demaryius Hurt, Wilma Hurt, Demarcus Hurt, Madison Cruder; and four great grandchildren, De’marii Hurt, Mulan Hurt, King, Ema’Rose Morehead.
The family will receive friends at Fellowship Baptist Church, 901 W. Liberty Street, Medina on Friday, June 4 from 5-7 pm. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 5 at 11:00 am at Fellowship Baptist Church, followed by burial at Spring Grove Cemetery.
