Holbert, Rancel “Randy”

Rancel “Randy” Holbert passed peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of April 26th.

He was born in Star City, West Virginia and moved to the city of Cleveland as a child. A long-time member of the Cleveland Police force, and a retired Detective, Randy spent his retirement years with his family and friends. A travel enthusiast, Mr. Holbert arranged for many vacations with his family, often to Marblehead, one of his favorite destinations.

Randy is preceded in passing by his brothers, Ernest “Ernie” and Burl Holbert, and his two sisters Frances “Frannie” and Phyllis.

Randy is survived by his beloved wife Marleen (nee Grentzer) Holbert of 61 years; daughters, Lynne Earhart (Michael Frazier) and Laura Hawes; son and best friend, Patrick Holbert, to whom Randy was not only Dad, but also Sports Coach, event coordinator, bowling partner and best bud; dearest grandchildren Erin Hawes (Dallin Sutherland) and William Hawes.

Having lived such a meaningful life it is hard to know which of Rancel’s many accomplishments were most significant to him, but undoubtedly being a devoted husband and a good and loving father and grandfather were of those which stand out to us.

Though we will all miss Randy, “Rance”, Dad, Grandpa, Officer and Detective Holbert, the memories we made together will undoubtedly keep our hearts full for a lifetime.

A celebration of Rancel’s life will be shared privately by immediate family. Honorary contributions may be made to Special Olympics.

  1. I’m so sorry to hear of Uncle Rancels passing. We enjoyed the many years of tallks and partys we had with him. We really enjoyed our most recent trip when we seen him in the rehab place. Even though he wispered to talk we under stood each other. We got him to smile and laugh while we were there. You can go anywhere you want without tolls or taxes Uncle Rancel.
Until we meet again Uncle Rancel
