Dobbins, Donald Burton

Donald Burton Dobbins, age 80, of Brunswick Hills, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 8th, 2020.

Married for 58 years to Judy (Socha). Father of Edward Donald, Bridgette Marie Woods (Donald), Monica Sue Petkac (Gregory), Burton Lee (Jennifer), Heidi Lynn Kanz (Randy), Donald Anderson (Evelyn), Kendrick Burton (Lisa- deceased), and Dean Burton. He had 19 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Don was born and raised in Old Brooklyn to Edward Donald Dobbins and Marie (Stricker). He was the oldest brother to Gloria Rhyner (Jack), Kenneth (Chris), and Gregory.  Strong in his Catholic faith, he attended Our Lady of Good Counsel and was an alter server for 7 years. Don was retired from a career as a trade magazine technical writer and editor for metalworking publications.  They included: Wire Tech, Precision Metal Forming, Tooling & Production, Precision Metal Molding, Metal Progress, American Machinist and Wire Technology International. People in the field called him, “The Wire Man”.   He attended Fenn Engineering College, Cleveland State University.  He enjoyed traveling to the many places (mostly the U.S. and Europe) that his work took him. These experiences and the people he met were kept close to him in the stories he shared.  His favorite times were family vacations to Oglebay in Wheeling WV and celebrations when his large family got together.  A private service was held at Saint Martins of Tours in Valley City.

  3. Don I am so sorry for your father passing away and during the crisis I know it was difficult to see him and made it all more difficult for you and the family. Evie I know you will miss celebrating with Don’s father your birthdays together. It was a special day you both shared and made a special bond between you and your father-in-law. To Andrew and Olivia, I know you are sad that your Grandpa passed away and will miss him. To Mrs. Dobbins, I am sorry for your husband’s passing and know you shared a lifetime of joy together with raising such a big family and having so many outstanding children and grandchildren from your love. I pray Mr. Dobbins is at peace as he is not in any discomfort or pain from his illness. I pray he and you all will hold onto the love and wonderful memories together in your hearts forever. My deepest sympathies to your family Don, Burt, Dean, Monica, Bridget, Heidi, and so many kids I have come to know Brendon, Lucy, etc.. you are all in my thoughts and prayers during this time.     I had good memories at your house with the big family celebrations. I haven’t seen you in awhile since the pandemic but my heart is with you buddy. You have a wonderful family and enjoyed talking to them at your house. I am sorry about your dad and just send my prayers to all of you to find peace and comfort.
