Nelson Robert “Butch” Bernauer passed away June 27, 2022.
The world has lost a true character like no other–Nelson “Butch” Bernauer–who stayed tough through a lengthy illness and faced death maintaining his unique sense of humor, requesting his cremation be “extra crispy.” He will be remembered for his passionate disposition, love of camping and fishing on Lake Erie, good music, books and debate, and insistence on always driving straight through the night on road trips.
Butch was born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 3, 1946, attended West High School, and earned an Associate Degree in Business from Tri-C. He had a deep interest in and talent for science and math and ran two successful businesses (Nelson Finishing and Paladin Painting) during his career. He became a firm believer that our country was going in the wrong direction and got involved in local politics, even running for a U.S. House of Representatives seat in 1996.
Nelson is survived by his devoted, loving wife, Patricia, their five children Sherri, Curt, Joe, Doug, and Mike, his brother Gary, his sister Candy, one son-in-law Nate (Sherri), two daughters-in-law Teresa (Curt) and Mayra (Doug)– and four grandchildren Yuvia, Kira, Nikki, and Logan (Doug and Mayra).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on July 23 at Our Lady of Grace Church, 1088 Ridge Road, Hinckley, 44233. You can watch the livestream by clicking here.
In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to honor his life and legacy may make a donation to Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center in Akron, Ohio.
